Borealis Maritime to Tackle Marine Pollution in New Partnership

UK maritime asset company, Borealis Maritime, has entered into a new partnership with non-profit Eyesea that will see Borealis’ fleet helping to fight marine pollution.

The partnership will centre on Eyesea monitoring and analysing data regarding marine pollution which will be collected by Borealis’ vessels. Reports will be gathered from Borealis’ tankers, offshore vessels and containerships. This data will, in turn, be used to identify pollution hotspots and target clean-up efforts.

Founded by Graeme Somerville-Ryan and Oliver Schwarz, Eyesea allows maritime professionals and enthusiasts alike to gather data on marine pollution via an app. Eyesea’s ultimate goal is to reduce oceanic pollution and protect marine life.

Commenting on the partnership, Christoph E. Toepfer, CEO of Borealis Maritime, said:

“We are excited to join forces with Eyesea. As a company deeply connected to the oceans, we recognise our responsibility to protect marine environments. We encourage our fleet to actively contribute to Eyesea’s innovative approach to tracking and addressing pollution, helping to safeguard our seas for future generations”.

Echoing Toepfer’s comments, Eyesea’s Graeme Somerville-Ryan, said:

“The addition of Borealis Maritime’s fleet enhances our ability to collect comprehensive data on marine pollution. Their commitment sets an important example within the maritime industry, and we are grateful for their support in our shared goal of cleaner oceans”.

Other companies that have joined Eyesea as supporting members include Taylor Maritime, Oldendorff Carriers, MPC Containerships, Wilhelmsen, Swire Bulk, MX Bulk and more.
