The annual Mersey Maritime Industry Awards (MMIA) took place in late October and Brookes Bell were proud to once again be a part of an event that celebrates everything about the strength and diversity of the maritime industry in northwest England.
To honour our part in Liverpool’s maritime industry, we were pleased to sponsor the Technology and Innovation Award, the award The Lab at Brookes Bell won in 2023 for our comprehensive Corrosion Assessment Service (CMAP).
It was a pleasure for us to present this year’s award to Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in front of more than 450 guests at the iconic Liverpool Cathedral.
LJMU won the award in recognition of its outstanding work to further the maritime industry in Liverpool and around the world. This includes work the university is undergoing on maritime decarbonisation, resilient and sustainable maritime transport and marine retrofitting. LJMU is also helping to develop the frameworks for risk management, and education and training for the safe and secure operation of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships.
This year’s MMIA was also a special occasion for the organisers as it marked the 10th Anniversary of the annual awards ceremony, which has done a great deal to promote the world-class standards of Liverpool and the wider region as a global maritime centre of excellence. More than 3,000 votes were cast at this year’s awards ceremony, which was a record high.
“By sponsoring the Technology and Innovation Award at this year’s special MMIA ceremony, Brookes Bell continues to champion the Liverpool and wider Merseyside area as one of the world's greatest and historic maritime regions. Our history in this iconic city goes back more than 120 years and our entire team is proud to call Liverpool our home. We congratulate LJMU on their fantastic win and look forward to seeing what else they have in store to improve our industry further,” said Adam Whittle, Marketing Manager at Brookes Bell.
