Graeme Bowles discusses salvage and re-float with London Shipping Law Centre

Graeme Bowles, Consultant Master Mariner has spoken as part of a webinar organised by the London Shipping Law Centre (LSLC) on collisions, wreck removal and salvage.  The event, which took place in April, was the first in the LSLC-YMP’s 2022 Global Webinar Series and was titled: ‘Wrecking Havoc – collisions, wreck removal and salvage’.

The speakers included Darryl Kennard, Partner at Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP, who discussed a collision case study and explained the nature of forum shipping and Johan Wong, Partner at Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP, Singapore who spoke about a large vessel grounding in the River Schelte.

Graeme used a case study to illustrate the challenges behind a salvage and re-float operation.  The Zelek Star was grounded in Ashdod, Israel when the vessel dragged its anchor in horrendous weather conditions, breaking the cable and ending up grounded on the beach next to a breakwater.  Graeme attended the site as SCR, and worked on the case with Adrian Scales, Director of Nautical UK.

The event aimed to provide an overview and comparative analysis from both an industry and legal practitioners’ perspective. Click here to watch the webinar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=013a2sb5Ehg&t=593s
