Global shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd is celebrating reaching its 300-vessel milestone, as the company launched its latest charter vessel Nordatlantic.
In a statement, the company confirmed that Nordatlantic will be used to strengthen Hapag-Lloyd’s intra-Asia feeder services (in addition to supporting their broader fleet upgrade).
Posting on LinkedIn, the company said that, ‘This achievement is just the start of an exciting chapter. The “Nordatlantic” will soon be joined by her sister ships, “Nordbaltic” and “Nordpuma” as part of a package deal with Reederei NORD Group’.
According to Hansa Online - an international maritime journal - Hapag-Lloyd’s fleet capacity grew by 18.7% in 2024, to reach a total of 2.3 million TEUs.
The Nordatlantic is 1,930 TEU and was built by CSSC, HuangPu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The vessel features an ‘ECO design’, and is methanol ready. It’s powered by a MAN 6S60ME-C10.5 Tier III (2 stroke) main engine.
The news marks a good start to 2025, with Hapag-Lloyd reaching a total of 16,700 employees working across 400 offices in 139 countries. In addition to serving more than 600 ports on all the continents, Hapag-Lloyd has also taken stakes in 20 terminals in Europe, Latin America, the United States, India, and North Africa.
