Lauritzen Bulkers Acquires Breakbulk Expert

Danish shipping company Lauritzen Bulkers has announced its acquisition of breakbulk expert Alexander & Blake. The latter, a Canadian-owned and operated company will operate under the new name Lauritzen Bulkers Parcel Service.

Established in 1884, Lauritzen Bulkers currently operates a fleet of approximately 100 geared handysize and ultramax vessels. The acquisition of Alexander & Blake (for an undisclosed sum), will further add to Lauritzen’s capacity and competencies.

Alexander & Blake has been in operation for over 30 years - specialising in break bulk and dry bulk, and predominantly serving clients in the North and South American markets. Bulk cargoes regularly carried by Alexander & Blake include bulk and bagged agricultural products as well as cement clinker, salt, minerals and fertilisers. Regular breakbulk cargoes include lumber, finished steel products and pulp and paper products.

The shipper also specialises in the transport of project and deck cargoes such as trucks and other vehicles, construction equipment and containers.

Commenting on the acquisition, Jacob Winthereik, the interim CEO and CFO of Lauritzen Bulkers, said:

“Following a thorough due diligence process, we are glad to announce the acquisition of Alexander & Blake, a Canadian parcel service operator”.

Winthereik’s comment was echoed by Rasmus Francis Jensen, vice president of Lauritzen Bulkers Parcel Service:

“The discussions we have in the past months with the Alexander & Blake team have confirmed to us their excellent competencies and how they will add value to Lauritzen Bulkers’ global shipping services from day one”.

David Linden, the founder and CEO of Alexander & Blake, commented:

“I am certain that our current and future customers will gain access to creative and competitive freight offerings. Furthermore, I see a very good fit between the Alexander & Blake values and the corporate culture, commercial mindset and customer focus of Lauritzen Bulkers”.
