Wallenius Wilhelmsen Wins Gothenburg Terminal Contract

Norwegian car carrier firm Wallenius Wilhelmsen has reached an agreement to take over the operations of Sweden’s Gothenburg port; the largest automotive-specific port in Scandinavia.

The deal will see Wallenius Wilhelmsen take over operations from February 2026 for a period of at least 12 years.

As a key hub that connects the Nordics with regions such as the Far East, North America, Africa, and Australia, Gothenburg port will allow Wallenius Wilhelmsen to further boost its capabilities. The deal follows the company boosting four vessels to ‘largest in the world’, as it seeks to become the leading car carrier company.

According to a statement from Wallenius Wilhelmsen, ‘the aim is to develop a partnership with the Port of Gothenburg to act as an integrated supply chain partner and transform the terminal into a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all carriers and customers’.

John Felitto, COO Logistics Services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen described the deal as follows:

“Operating the Gothenburg terminal strengthens our logistics network and is a strategic milestone that supports our vision of sustainable and innovative growth.

It amplifies our operational capabilities in the region and enhances our and the port’s ability to provide seamless and efficient logistics solutions. We look forward to co-creating a hub that will serve the Scandinavian market”.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen also points out that the port provides additional benefits in the form of additional distribution channels including rail and road.
